FOX32: Let’s Get Moving!

On with my favorites at Fox32 Chicago this morning! We chatted about some interesting new studies out

🍔🥓🥩 A recent study shows eating red meat 2 times a week can increase your risk for developing type 2 diabetes. This study did not show causation, meaning we cannot interpret the results to state eating red meat causes type 2 diabetes. But we can say that eating red meat can increase your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. We have previously talked about the increased risk of heart disease, colon cancer, and other medical problems linked to diets high in red meat, and this study again supports recommendations to replace some red meat intake with other healthier options. “Each additional daily serving of processed red meat, such as bacon or hot dogs, was linked with a 46 percent greater risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, and each additional daily serving of unprocessed red meat was tied to a 24 percent greater risk”
The study did predominantly include Caucasian individuals, so would love to see more data with a more diverse patient population enrolled.

🏃‍♀️20 min of exercise/day can cancel out prolonged sitting & increase lifespan! Take the stairs, park further away from the entrance to that store, get moving! Many of us have become more sedentary these last few years. Getting up and moving 20 minutes a day (150 minutes a week) with moderate exercise can prolong your life! “An extra 10 minutes a day translated into a 15% lower risk of death among those spending fewer than 10 ½ hours seated and a 35% lower risk among those who spent more than 10 ½ hours sedentary each day.”
So let’s get moving!
